If you get transferred a call while on shift that you realize is not directly related to a potential incoming patient, politely interrupt and say “I’m sorry, I have to keep this line open for incoming patients, and I want to make sure you get the information you need. I’m going to transfer you back to the unit clerk to get you the right contact information”. Then ask the unit clerk to give them the admin department number or the number for the Patient Care and Quality Office. Do not try to address their concern or take down phone numbers or messages while on shift.
